ebay is a good place for inexpensive costumes, also check out facebook groups that are for belly dancers.

There is a store in my mall called Gifts from A-Far. They always have belly dancer-like clothes. But they may be a bit pricey. You may want to see if there is one near you.

It would be better to get one the right size. The area that is decorated might be too small to look perfect. My first scarf had a gap and never looked quite right. Not all designs have this problem so it very much depends upon the scarf.

For a beginner it doesn’t matter that much. You will still be able to tie it on as it should have long tails for tying.

Some teachers don’t allow students to wear coin or jangly noisy belts for class and prefer students to wear fringe or sequin scarfs – but even if that is the case you might want one for practice as the feedback from the sound is really useful.

Perhaps you should wait until you see what the class is like.

I’ve just been watching a couple of local womens’ exotic dancing groups.

Many of those who were best at shaking their bootie were women who had plenty to shake! And with joy and pride about their bodies.

Check out your local dance classes. You might find some good surprises.
